The word Reiki is the combined Kanji characters Rei and Ki. Translated to mean Universal Life Force Energy, also known as Ki or Chi. The founding father of Reiki, Mikao Usui, was a Tendi Buddhist who spent many years studying the meaning of life and searching for answers. He was finally rewarded when he experienced his spiritual awakening by receiving the gift of Reiki on Mount Kurama in March of 1921.
Reiki is defined as a form of energy healing, that when directed to specific areas of the body, helps to facilitate the healing of any physical, emotional and/or mental imbalances. Reiki energy is directed through the Reiki practitioner to the clients body. This placement of hands, senses blocked and/or weak areas of energy within the seven energy portals of the body, know as the Chakra System. Each one of the Chakra portals helps us to maintain and balance our spiritual and emotional well-being for that Chakras specific characteristic. Each Chakra has a name, color, vibration and purpose.
